Baby Cobra Pose
ARDHA BHUJANGASANA
OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
This heart opening pose is a great strength builder. As an energizing backbend, it’s great for people that experience back discomfort and poor posture.
BENEFITS
- Builds strength in the back muscles, which in turn improves posture.
- Strengthens the arms and shoulders.
- Great for low back pain.
PREPPING FOR THE POSE
Though this exercise can be practiced on its own, you’ll notice even greater benefits if practiced on a “warm body”. Poses to help you achieve that would be:

PROPS & VARIATIONS
Props are very important to a practice. They are made to assist in correct postures, and assist in injury prevention. Please use them if necessary.
GETTING INTO IT
Feel this pose in your chest, abdominals, hips, low back, glute muscles and shoulders.
For best results, practice this pose several rounds for 3 breaths before holding the pose longer.
- Lie on your belly with legs together.
- Place palms near armpits, bringing elbows to the body.
- Your middle fingers are facing the top of your mat. Inhale.
- Core is engaged, raise your head, chest and shoulders off the mat.
- Your gaze is forward, shoulders are soft.
- Exhale as you return your upper body and forehead to the mat.
- Hold this pose for 5 breaths before.
