OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

This pose is great for spine flexibility and health. It’s also great for digestion by massaging the internal organs.

BENEFITS

  • Increased appetite and digestion powers.
  • Beneficial to the gallbladder, spleen, kidney, liver and bowels.
  • Helps to relieve muscular rheumatism of the back and hips.

PREPPING FOR THE POSE

This pose can be practiced on its own, you’ll notice even greater results if practiced on a “warm body”. Poses to help you achieve that would be:

  • Cat/Cow sequence
  • Threading Needle

PROPS & VARIATIONS

Props are very important to a practice. They are made to assist in correct postures, and assist in injury prevention. Please use them if necessary.

GETTING INTO IT

Depending on your body’s capacity, you may experience discomfort in: the chest, shoulders, side body, hamstrings and hips.

    1. Sitting position, bend Right knee.
    2. Bring Right foot to Left knee/thigh.
    3. Hold Right Knee with Right palm, raise Left arm above head.
    4. Deep Inhalation.
    5. Bring Left elbow to Right thigh and twist as you Exhale.
    6. The core is engaged, the spine is straight.
    7. Supporting hand is at the sacrum.
    8. Return to base position before going to the opposite side.

Practice this twisting series 5 times for 2 deep breaths before holding the pose for 5.

  • Did you notice bowel movement or stomach growling shortly after practicing this pose?
